IN MEMORY OF MRS. MATTIE E. BUTTRAM
Mrs. Mattie E. Buttram was born April 21, 1875. Departed this life February
25, 1913. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.A. Kerr, a prominent family
of this county. She was married to Mr. J.W. Buttram on March 10, 1892. She
lived above reproach from childhood to death. She was a model. She always had
a kind word for her family and friends. She never fretted over the ills of
life but showed a christian spirit in all she undertook. She was loved by all
who knew her. She has left many friends to mourn her death. She leaves a dear
husband, three sons and a daughter-in-law that mourn not as those who have no
hope. They with their many friends o nly mourn her absence here. She was a
prominent sacred harp singer and she praised god in sacred songs. To her
friends, below you will read her advice that she wrote last October, just 4
months to the day before her burial while in her room alone. To the family you
have our sympathy. Remember what your dear ones have written. A friend, J.J.
Turner. What she wrote October 26, 1912:
"This is to you my husband, love, I hope we'll meet our little dove in that
celestial home above where all is peace and love. This is to you my oldest
son, also your bride for you are one. I hope we'll meet on that bright shore
and sing god's praise forever more. This is to you my second son, your mother
is most undone, but look to jesus for your guide, he will for you a place
provide. This is to you my baby dear, you will never know a mothers care but
god will keep you from all harm and bring you home to jesus arms. Now to all
my friends and family dear. I soon will leave you in god's care. I hope we'll
all with jesus dwell, so friends and dear one fare you well. "
