Distinguished Service Cross Citation
Newman Davis, sergeant, Company D, 11th Infantry. For extraordinary heroism
in action near Brandeville, France, November 7-8, 1918. After all the officers
of his company had become casualties, Sergt. Davis, then corporal, took command,
displaying exceptional gallantry in leading his men. Residence at enlistment:
Jacksonville, Ala.
