Served as a Corporal in Captain William Pierce's Company, 1st Artillery
Regiment, Continental Troops, assigned to Virginia under Act of Congress
of 3 Oct 1780. He enlisted 9 May l777 to serve 3 years was transfered
some time prior to Jan l779 to Capt. James Pendleton's Company, same
regiment. He was transfered about July l779 to Capt. Whitehead
Coleman's Company, same regiment. Bertha Lewis Clark a descendant.

Hickory Co. MO has papers, all dated Oct 1865, ie. death of James.
They didn't list any heirs as he had nothing to leave. Their was a
promisary note for $21.50 from Cammel Jordan to James Alexander,
witnessed by Geo Owen (James' son-in-law and Betty's gggfather).
Perhaps from Roane Co. TN. Mary R. Alexander married George W. Owen
23 Aug 1854 in Rowane Co. TN. (?had gone back to visit family?) Also
located a marriage for James Alexander to Elvira Warren 25 Jan 1831
Roane Co. TN which may be same.
