Jackie,
Thanks for your note. I am replying to the list because there are a
number of other McClenny researchers helping me with this and I'm hoping
some of the information here will help them also. But to try to figure this
out I went through all my McClenny info and now my office at home is the
most disorganized place from Texas to Alabama and beyond. (That's not your
fault and I'm not fussing at you but I have never figured out the best way
to organize and keep track of literally hundreds of pieces of paper dealing
with about 20 different family ancestral lines.) Maybe some kind person on
this list will share with me the best method they have devised.

From what I can determine we are both from the same line of
McClenny's. Before I will attempt to explain how I will say that I looked
up the Piney Grove Cemetery in the Henry County, AL Cemetery Listings and
thanks to Pat Long (who submitted the enumeration) I see there are more
McClenny's than any other family in that cemetery. Among the first I saw
was Leckie McClenny (1900-1995), the very sweet lady that I visited in l978.
Even at 78 she was very spry and sharp as a tack and now I see she lived to
be 95 years old. God rest her soul and may someone put a flower on her
grave for me.

You mentioned A. M. "Gus" McClenny as your dad's uncle. In looking at the
names of the other McClenny's there, I see William Marion McClenny b. 13 Nov
1814, d. 1 Jan 1886; [mar. Sarah Cameron]
He was a brother of David McClenny b. 25 Dec 1816, d. ?; mar. Gatsey Ann
Pellum; both bur. ??
David McClenny was the father of Thomas Charles McClenny b. 22 Mar 1849, d.
8 Dec 1938; mar Sarah Catherine Carr.
Thomas Charles McClenny was the father of William Cloe McClenny b. 20 Sep
1886, d. 21 July 1956 ; mar. Isabelle Ruth Kennedy

William Cloe McClenny was my grandfather. (My mother Ruby Lee McClenny Kirby
b. 5 May 1915, d. 5 Feb 1995)

You may already know that William Marion McClenny and David McClenny had two
sisters: Mary Ann McClenny b 1800-1810, d. ? ; mar William Betterton ;
Jincy McClenny, b 5 Nov 1811, d 8 Feb 1877 (?) mar. Blackman Thornton
and they had a half brother Reuben McClenny b. ?, d,?

Their father was William McClenny b abt 1779, d. ?
William's first wife was ?; 2nd wife was Phereby Lee (Phereby's 2nd
husband was Herod Thornton and they are buried in Thornton Cemetery, Fayette
Co, GA

The father of this William was James McClenny, b abt 1733 , d. between 27
Nov 1792 (date of will) and 27 Aug 1793 (will admitted to probate) James'
wife was Martha ?

Now backtracking a little. Your father's uncle Gus was Angus Marion
McClenny b. 13 Nov 1858, d. 16 Sep 1932. As you may know he was a twin
brother to William Wilburn McClenny b 13 Nov 1858, d. 11 Nov 1912.

They were the sons of William Marion McClenny (brother of my grgrgrandfather
David McClenny).

And by the way, Leckie's father was William Wilburn McClenny.

To answer your question, yes I would like to have a copy of the picture of
Gus and Emaline. And your father's name???

And if you happen to know where David McClenny and Gatsey Ann Pellum
McClenny are buried I would like to know. And if I might help you with your
research, let me know.
Thanks, Rex Kirby

Rex,
I am related (not descended from) to "Gus" McClenny that is buried at the
Piney Grove Cem. My father grew up very close to him and his "favorite Aunt
and Uncle" were his Aunt "Line" (Emeline) and Uncle "Gus" McClenny. I
have a picture of them if you are related close enough to be interested.
They were a fine looking couple.
Jackie Hines
