Subject: [ALHENRY] CSA 33rd AL dilemma
Date: Fri, 6 Sep 2002 09:32:07 -0400

I know there are civil war experts on this list and am hoping one likes
problem solving as well.

Zebedee R Jones: Tombstone in Jackson Co FL says born 1847, 1860
Henry Co census says 13 years old, confederate pension appl
dated May 1922 says he's 72/82 ? having been born in 1842.

Denied Soldiers Pension 1922 appl info:
enlisted at Troy, AL in Feb 1862, Co F AL 33rd Inf
[my understanding is the 33rd was formed in Pensacola ?]
honorably discharged near Nashville May 1865, wounded
and sent home [affidavits confirm this]
Zebedee is not on any roster
affidavit of G A Bodiford on AL roll and acceptable
[I've not seen him on a roster of Co F AL 33rd]
affidavit of B F Matthews, denied, not on rolls, applying
himself for a pension
[I've not seen him on a roster either]

Reapplied 1923 approved
enlisted 15 Feb 1862 at Troy, AL, Co F, AL 33rd
honorably discharged 28 Oct 1864 at Richmond, VA
close of war [affidavits confirm this]
affidavit again of G A Bodiford
affidavit of W R Bufalo
[these affidavits are very unclear with what appears to be
wrong names in wrong places]

Widow's pension approved in 1929, retro to Nov 1928

Since I have now gathered much info on my gg-grandfather,
Zebedee Jones, I'd like to put some meat on the dates and places.

Is it possible he was with the AL 33rd, but enlisted in Troy? BTW, why Troy
since he was living in Henry Co?

He does have a CSA tombstone, date of death is a year off, but it is there.

Sorry this is so long, and I look forward to expert opinions.
