Melissa, thank you for letting us know about the book, many such as myself would gladly pay this for a hardcopy/original of Mrs. Marvin Scott's work.
Mr. Morris, I see your not a collector of first editions, in which many books sell such as this one for well more than 3 or 4 hundred dollars. I am not a collector, but do know what it means to the collectors to get first editions, especially when they are not reprinted at the time, even then they are very valuable when they are limited reprints, and especially that a family member wrote/compiled. Seller's do not buy them cheap either.
Unless people are just wanting the family information and the book itself means nothing, then they would much rather have a hard copy.
I sent your email to the seller questioning the price and I see that they repriced the book, and could have had an error using the bulk listing program, as many do. I use to sell on yahoo and it has happened to me before as many others.
I also have this book and cost quite a bit last year to get it.
A book missing pages, your right, is not worth more than 15.00, much information is missing, incomplete vol. to a collector that is. Genealogist will accept this many times. I know I would as long as my ancestor or family member did not write it, or as long as I did not want to hand it down to my descendants.
Also, many times I have bid on books which had reserves and never met the reserve, but still was offered it at the price I bid, they often place that up there so it seems the bidder does not win, then they offer it to the bidder at their high bid because it saves fees, which are very high to list as well as the site getting a percentage of the final bid amount. At least this is how it was on yahoo auctions anyway.
Bev
