Dear Eleanor:
I forgot to mention that I know of a W. L. or W. S. Geary / Garey who in Fall 1844 served as an manager for the Church Hill Precinct in a Lowndes County election. The other managers were C. W. Bickly and Archer Barrett Howard, who also lived at Pleasant Hill and were connected to Mount Gilead Church. The following slaves of Mr. Geary were members of Mount Gilead as well: Andy, Primus, Ivy, Joy, Lene, and Jinsey. Following the Civil War, Primus Gary and another former slave, Isreal Hrabowski, led the black member of Mount Gilead to separate and form what is now Mount Gillard Missionary Baptist Church. Mount Gillard is still active.
If you know of a connection between Mr. Geary and your Catherine Gary, I would be most interested.
