Dear READERS,
Just now I spoke with Chris Campbell at Senator Orrin G. Hatch's office
in Washington, DC. I wasn't sure if the "Resolution to support Family
History Month" had passed. IT HASN'T BEEN PRESENTED YET.
Chris explained that things have been "slow going" perhaps due to the
fact that the Senate is trying to finish up urgent business, and then go on
recess. Most senators usually return to their home states for the end of the
summer. While I believe genealogy is important, I understand that the
Patient's Bill of Rights, etc., do take priority.

WHAT STILL NEEDS TO BE DONE?
Senator Hatch needs as many of his colleagues to support this
resolution, and
that can happen IF you write to your US Senator. I have taken the
liberty of
creating a sample letter which you can copy and paste in an e-mail to
your
senator, filling in the date, name and address where indicated.

IF YOU NEED THE SNAIL OR E-MAIL ADDRESS OF YOUR US SENATOR, it can be
found
online at:

http://www.senate.gov/
Then click to view the listing of senators by state, and follow to find
the info on your senator.

SAMPLE LETTER REQUESTING SUPPORT:
---------------- begin copy and paste -------------------
(Insert Date)

Dear Senator:
This letter is to request that you respond positively to Senator Orrin
G.Hatch's 10 July 2001 letter of request to support a resolution
declaring
October each year as FAMILY HISTORY MONTH. Senator Hatch is correct in
spotlighting the importance of families.

Indeed, "the study of family history gives individuals a sense of their
heritage and a sense of responsibility in carrying out a legacy that
their
ancestors began." Mr. Chris Campbell in Senator Hatch's office would
like to
provide more information on this resolution, and add your name as a
cosponsor. (202) 224-4412.

As one of your constituents, I ask that you vote in favor of this
resolution
that is of heartfelt importance to me and my family.

Signed,

Address
City, state zip
phone (optional)
---------------- end copy and paste -------------------

If even ten percent of the
"14 million people (researching family on the internet)"
and "24 million people (using e-mail) last month"
preferenced in the proposal) were to write, the avalanche of support
would be
hard for our senators to overlook.

Don't delay! Write to your senator TODAY!
Happy family tree climbing!
