In Memoriam,

Died at her residence in Conecuh Co., Alabama, July 10, 1886, Mrs.
Jane COOK, wife of Wiles COOK. She was born near old Port Claiborne,
Nov. 11, 1825, was married to Wiles COOK, July 4, 1844 and united
with the Baptist church in 1846, remaining and consistent member
until the time of her death.
\par \tab For forty-two years she and her aged husband had fought the
battle of life together. Through all the changing scenes incident
to so long a pilgrimage, they have stood shoulder, shoulder until
death, the black plumed messenger, has sperated them and taken from
"Uncle Wiles" the wife of his youth, and leaves him as-
"One who treads alone, Some banquet hall deserted, Whose lamps are
fled, Whose garlands dead, ad all but him departed."
Such is life with all its sorrows and disappointments. What a
glorious reflection that this is not our eternal abiding place that
our sorrows, which are but for a moment will work out a far more
eternal weight of glory and that we have a home eternal in the
Heavens, a city maker and ruler is God.
Aunt Jane will be greatly missed; her place, hard to fill. She was
always kind to the poor and friendless,a loving wife and mother, and
a devoted Christian, which gave her the victory over death and
lighted the darkness of the tomb.
She lived to see those many sons and daughters grown, and rejoiced
in the fact they had taken their places in society as honorable men
and women, respected by all who knew them.
Aged husband and sorrowing children, we would not ask you not to
grieve, for it would be mockery. Time alone, the greatal laviator of
all human woes; can assuage your grief. But you are assured by her
Christain department that your loss is her eternal gain, and that
beyond the dark rolling river her barge is safely anchored in the
heaven of eternal rest. Now you have new ties in the great beyond,
ne incentives to spur you you on to a more holy, earnest and
determined conflict against sin and every obstacle that would tend to
debar you from the happy reunion that waits you in the vast unknown.
"Gently the passing spirit fled, Sustained by grace Devine. Oh! may
such graces be on us shed and make our end like thines."
