Surname: DUKE, FONDREN, WOOLLEY
-------------------------
Jeremiah K. Duke(s) married Caroline Woolley in 1836 in Perry County, AL.
He died in 1844, and left two orphans, of record. They were Rachel Ann
Shunsey(?) Duke(s) and Lovick Sherrod Duke(s). A man named Robert Duke
sought and was granted guardianship of the two orphans.
What relationship existed between Jeremiah and Robert?
Who were Jeremiah's parents? Who were Robert's parents?
When did Carolilne die? Who were Caroline's parents?
In Nov., 1860, Lovick married a daughter of the Fondren family, called
Adaline in the marriage records.
I have thought for several months that she was Cynthia Adeline Fondren.
However, I may stand to be corrected. In the 1870 census, they were in
Bibb County, and she was called 'Chistie'. In the 1880 census, after they
arrived in Texas, she is called 'Chesta'. (I realize census takers were
fallible, and I know they were required to ask for first names).
Neither of those familiar names fits with Adaline, and she was called Addie
by her husband and our family.
Also, in both the census lists, there appeared a cousin, whose name was
Cynthia Fondren.
The primary problem I would like to solve is finding the father and mother
of Jeremiah, and of Caroline Woolley.
If anyone knows who these Duke(s) and Woolleys were, I would appreciate
your input. Thanks Joe Duke
