According to a diary of a Carroll Co., Ms. person, her daughter had the
choice of crossing by the overland route via Ar. and taking 3 months
plus or going to New Orleans by the river routes (in Ms. Yazoo and Ms.
Rivers) and go by packet boat which only took two weeks. I imagine that
in Alabama, the choice was to Mobile, or New Orleans or overland.
