My great-great-grandfather, John Brinkley Burks, married 1. Temperence
Evans on January 19, 1831 in Newton Co., Georgia. He was the son of William
Burks, Jr. and Mary Dunston and the grandson of William Burks, Sr. and
Lenora Harris. Brinkley was born April 25, 1807 in Oglethorpe Co., Georgia
and died August 8, 1888 in China Grove, Pike Co., Alabama. Tempy was born
in 1810 in South Carolina and died in June 1873 in China Grove. She and
Brinkley are buried in Old Union Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in China
Grove. They were the parents of eleven children: Joel W., Mastin Milton
(my great-grandfather), William Pulaski, Martha Elizabeth, Temperence,
Margaret, Mary, James Brinkley, Frederick, Susan and Jemima Burks. After
Tempy's death, Brinkley married 2. Sophronia E. Lawrence (Turner)on July
21, 1873 in Pike Co. Their five children were Julia Annie S., Daniel Dozier,
Boycey Adelaid, Minnie L. and Robert Franklin Burks. If you are from this
