SAD FUNERAL OF MRS. ROBT. BROWN Attended by Many Friends at Baptist Church
Wednesday
A large and sympathetic audience assembled at the First Baptist church last
Wednesday afternoon to pay a tribute of respect to the memory of Mrs. Robert
Brown, whose death was reported in these columns last week. The ladies of the
church, by whom Mrs. Brown will be specially missed, had decorated the church
becomingly. Impressive music was rendered.
The pastor, Rev. J.W. Rucker, read several comforting scripture lessons and
spoke in eloquent, feeling terms of the character and devotion of the
deceased. Among other things, he said:
Mrs. Abbie G. Brown was born in LaGrange, Georgia, July 24th, 1857; being 56
years, one month and 23 days old at the time of her death. She was converted
and joined the Baptist church at Newnan, Ga., about 30 years ago, since which
time she has been a faithful member of the Baptist church.
She was married to Deacon Robt. Brown of Roanoke, Ala., Jan. 3rd, 1892. She
died at her home in Roanoke, Ala., at five p.m., Sept. 16, 1913. She leaves a
husband, one daughter, two sisters and three brothers to mourn her loss.
Sister Brown was an unselfish, genial, cheerful christian woman. Her devotion
to her husband was unabating; the mutual affection of mother and daughter was
admirable; her cheerful manner won for her the abiding friendship of all who
knew her. Though a sufferer for years, she was always in her place in the
services of the church if at all possible. When the women of the church
gather in their labors of love, the vacant seat will remind them of one who
was faithful, earnest and full of devotion. No doubt that her absence will
cause her memory to be a benediction to this noble band of devout women.
"Servant of God, well done,
Rest from thy loved employ;
The battle fought, the victory won,
Enter thy Master's joy."
-----
CARD OF THANKS
We wish to express our deepest gratitude and appreciation to the faithful
physicians, kind and loving friends and neighbors who have given our dear
loved one such devotion in her last illness and we, the bereaved family, such
sympathy and kindness in our deepest grief. May the Father of All provide
like friends and sympathy for them in like affliction. Jean Askew Garrett,
Robt. Brown and family.
