MR. SHAFFER HILL HAS GONE TO HIS FINAL REST AFTER LONG ILLNESS

At 1:30 o'clock last Wednesday afternoon, Mr. Shaffer Hill was called away
from the sufferings of his life, after a period of failing health extending
over five years. During this trying period he was patient and heroic. He made
a determined fight to live and even in his afflictions he fought to earn a
livelihood, when really not strong enough to work.

The deceased was the only son of Mr. W.L. Hill. His father and four sisters
survive. He was a member of the Baptist church and expressed to his pastor his
faith in the presence of death. Funeral services were conducted from the
First Baptist church Thursday afternoon.

OBITUARY OF LOY L. GRIFFIN

On Friday, the 19th inst., the death angel came into the home of our dear
brother Loy L. Griffin and bore his spirit home to God at the age of 26 years.
Just four weeks ago Bro. Griffin was baptized into the fellowship of the
Handley Ave. Baptist church, after giving in a bright experience of grace. We
had hoped and believed he would be a helpful and useful member here with us,
but God has seen fit to move him from us to his home in the Paradise of God.

Bro. Griffin leaves a father, mother, four brothers, one sister, his dear wife
and two little children, besides the church and a host of friends to mourn his
going away, but our loss is his gain.

We can only say to his loved ones, "look to God", who alone is able to comfort
you in this hour of sore trial." To one and all, we say, "prepare to meet
thy God and in so doing, prepare also to meet thy loved ones again in the
sweet by and by." Farewell dear brother, till we all shall meet at Jesus'
feet. T.H. Landers

RESOLUTIONS ON THE DEATH OF J.J. FIELDS

Whereas it has pleased our heavenly father, in His infinite wisdom, to remove
from our midst, by death, our beloved and faithful superintendant, J.J.
Fields; whereas, he was a most devout christian, a charter member and faithful
deacon of Noon Day Christian Church, a most faithful and loving superintendant
of Noon Day Sunday School; therefore, be it resolved:

1st; that while we are sorely grieved because of our loss in the death of our
beloved Bro. J.J. Fields, we bow in humble submission to the will of our
heavenly Father, who makes no mistakes. We know that our loss is Bro. Fields'
gain.

2nd; that the church and Sunday school feel keenly their loss and deeply
sympathize with the family in this sad hour of our bereavement.

3rd; that we commend his example of loyalty to God and faithfulness to the
church and Sunday School. He is dead, but his works live, and shall ever be a
guiding star to us, through life.

4th; that a copy of these resolutions be sent to the family of the deceased,
one to the Christian Sun, and to both the county papers for publication, and a
copy be spread on both the church and Sunday School records.

The writer returned last week from a visit to Atlanta. Stopping over at
Palmetto, we visited our old home after an absence of forty-four years. Many
changes have been made in this long period. The old church house and school
building where we first attended church and school are gone and fine edifices
stand in their stead. The old family cemetery had grown up into a forest.
