Thank you for the information about the towns.
So I guess Markirch is the only one that applies to this list. I found that
name in scant notes my mother left. I'm not sure which of the family are
from there. I thought it might be Charles (Carl or Karl) Eck but he wrote
on his Civil War pension application that he was from Bamberg.
Could the name Eck be from Alsace?

There is no Markirch in Germany,but it is the German name of
Sainte-Marie-Aux-Mines in Haut-Rhin (Alsace), arrondissement of Ribeauvillé.
