I would assume I would have to travel to that County? Do I assume those papers would not be available online anywhere? I ask because I have no time for travel, especially from MI to PA. Work and family schedule make it impossible.

Thanks,

Ronald Depner

Hi Ron,

Try to get Michael Depner's Declaration of Intention papers (First Papers)
from the county where he lived, if he was naturalized.
This should tell you where and when he came to America.

He may have said he came from Austria, but he may have come from Hungary.
Here is why I say that. I am working on a family at the present time for a
friend; who said they were from Austria-Hungary and/or from Vienna.
Well, as it turned out when I got the Declaration of Intention Papers, he
was from Hungary. It gave the village from which he came and also his wife's
who also came from Hungary. I had looked for about 6 months trying to find
some exact dates without success, but the Declaration of Intention was the only
sure thing I had.
Needless to say, I have gone back 8 generations now with this family.

Good Luck
Pat Westcott
