The duplicate URL is because your email client has been programmed to
allow a "simple" title for a complicated link that is supposed to be
hidden. This may be a result of the HTML features of your email
client. It automatically creates both a viewable "title" and a hidden
portion of the same URL. For example, my email client is Eudora, and
it allows me to create a link title like this -
<http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~valorie/Alsace-Lorraine-L.htm>A-L
pages with the URL for Valorie's resource pages
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~valorie/Alsace-Lorraine-L.htm
that is supposed to be hidden. This probably worked correctly in the
direct mail I sent to you, but the mail list software will probably
also show the hidden link, since RootsWeb mail lists will not accept
HTML text.
To eliminate this duplicate link in Eudora (Your email client may
require a different edit sequence.) I usually "select" (highlight)
that part of the message that contains the link and then hit Alt-E
(=Edit menu), Alt-X (=revert), and Alt-E (=remove edit menu) to
eliminate the duplicate (hidden) entries.
