Robert:
I would think that any American Legion or Veterans of Foreign Wars Post

Hi David,
A 'sept' is a clan, especially of descendants of a common ancestor. It's
used both in Ireland AND Scotland.
What SHOULD be interesting to you, as it was to me, is that the CAMPBELL
clan, especially the Campbells of Argyle, have very close connections to
the THOMPSON name. So much so, that we Thompson's can wear the Campbell
of Argyle clan tartan, to include the Black Watch tartan!
The story I've heard is that the Thompsons lived in Cumberland, just
below Hadrian's Wall, and of course, the Campbells lived just over the
wall. Well, as the story goes, the Scots would go over the wall to find
young Thompson lasses and bring them back to Scotland to be their
wives! Just a story, mind you, but it might explain the close
relationship between the Campbell's of Argyle and the Thompsons, now
might it not?
