There were a number of early Viewer CD-ROMs that were defective. If you
bought your VRI from the US or from a UK supplier that sourced them in
the US, there is a possibility that you may have such a CD. You can
contact the LDS technical support e-mail at <> and
they'll be able to advise you on how to overcome this problem.
Don't take the 1888 cut-off date too literally. There are quite a few
events later than that including some that trickle over into the 20th
century.
