While I hardly consider myself an ex-spurt, I have the highest regard for The Master Genealogist (http://www.whollygenes.com) . I have been using it for a few years after and transitioned from Brothers Keeper to FTM to TMG. TMG is, IMO, far superior in regard to data capabilities.

TMG has a learning curve that is somewhat steeper than the "keep-it-as-simple-as-a-buttonclik" type softwares. This means that it takes a while to master (I am still learning after three years), but its flexibility, customization, and reporting capabilities are unsurpassed.
