How true Richard. I have 13 different spellings of Figueroa in Jamaica in a
30-40 year time span. And other than one, they are all my husband's line.
Depends on the clerk writing it down. We pronounce it "Figaro" and they
obviously did the same in the early 1800's, as I have variations on that
pronunciation. Have absolutely no idea why it was pronounced that way as it
is Figueroa in the rest of the spanish-speaking world.

Just my thoughts.
