Joel Edwards was born in 1805 in Jasper County, GA. He died sometime
between the 1860 and 1870. Joel and his wife Sarah had eleven children:
Unknown female, born betwen 1825 and 1830; Unknown female, born between
1825 and 1830 ; Unknown female born between 1830 and 1835; William H. ,
who married Caroline Kite in 1849, born in 1829; Reuben, born in 1833;
Robert, born 1836; Mary, born 1838; Roxan(?), born 1840; Sarah, born 1842;
Amanda, born 1844; and Tolina (?), born 1846.

Joel and his family moved from Jasper County, GA to Dadeville, Tallapoosa
County, Alabama between 1840 and 1842. They probably died and are buried
in Tallapoosa County. The location is unknown.

Robert was killed in the Civil War at Charlottesville, VA on June 1, 1862.
He served with the 15th Alabama Regiment.

At the time of the 1860 census, William H., occupation listed as "miller",
and his wife Caroline and their three children: Sarah E, age 9; Rufus M,
age 6; and William J, age 4, were still living in Tallapoosa County. At
the time of the 1870 census, Caroline and the children had moved to Scott
County, Mississippi. A fourth child, Joel Joeseph, was born after the move
to Mississippi. William was not listed in that census report.

What happened to William H. Edwards? He may have served in the Civil War.
There are two William H. Edwards listed in the Alabama Infantry: 40 Alabama
Infantry, Company D had a Private William H. Edwards. The 49th Alabama
Infantry (no comapny listed) had a William H. Edwards who served as Quarter
Master at the beginning of his service and was promoted to Captain before he
was discharged. Both of these men survived the war.
