Re: the discussion of the Key, Snow, Cheek families - - - - - - - - -
I have a little more info.on this in my files and will add to request
from Sally below and the good data below forwarded to the list by
Gail & Chuck Snow on Wash Key family. There is a great letter
from Floyd Key in Vertical files of Jasper library which clarifies Will
Key's family. (Phil Shipp, corrrect me here, if you have anything
different.) Rather than retype, I will add info. below- mine in
brackets & initialed. Anyone with more data on this or other Keys,
please post.

ABBOTT Abt. 1819 in Va., daughter of JAMES ABBOTT and
ELIZABETH COPELAND.
[Her marker says Asinthia Key. Apparently "Cynthia/Cinthia"
shortened and got muddled badly on censuses. Is Asenath,
Acinith, etc. a variant of Acinthia? Wm. S. Washington Key was
called "Wash". Also, they married. in Al Territory- John Key family
was in St. Clair Co. Al by 1819, in NC for about 10 yrs. prior to
that. --- BD]
Children of WASH KEY and CYNTHIA ABBOTT are:

WILLIAM W. SNOW.
[ Elizabeth G. (Key) and Wm. R. Snow moved to Cherokee
Co. TX. He died abt 1856 there, was b. c1809 GA. Her family is
there thru 1860 & 1870 censuses. Apparently later to Tyler Co @
Bullard. Or was Tyler formed from part of Cherokee? Next door in
1860 was Isaac Blanton, Sr. who had moved from Walker Co. AL.
His son Isaac, Jr. was married 1st to Millie Cheek. Also living near
Isaac Blanton Sr., & perhaps a son-in-law, was William Handley
from Walker Co., Al- the s/o Tom Handley (from TN, as were the
Cheeks). --- BD]

[ Belinda M. Key md. John Cheek, b. c1818 AL (Terr.). I have 9
children listed for them. Is the "M" for Milstead"? --- BD]
> iii. NANCY KEY, b. Abt. 1823; m. MR. CHEEK.
[ Nancy Key md. Randolph Cheek, b. c1817 TN, and they're on
1850 Red River Co., TX census. Since "Cherokee Co., TX History"
biographical sketch of John Malcom Snow says he married his
cousin Nancy Elizabeth Cheek who was d/o WR & Eveline Cheek,
I presume that WR is W. Randolph and Eveline is Nancy Eveline
Key?? Other data says Randolph is s/o Valentine & Elizabeth
Cheek. From ages, & migration together, it appears that John &
Randolph Cheek are brothers & Millie Cheek Blanton their sister.

[ Jas. Wm. "Will" Key md. his 1st cousin Mary Ann "Polly"
Key, b. 2 July 1838 WCA, d. 3 June 1903 Cherokee Co., TX. She
is buried there, but Will returned to Walker Co. & is buried at Old
Shiloh Cem., per data I have. Dates above ( 1832-1920) are same,
but says he died in Walker Co. ---- BD]

[Elizabeth Key & Wm. R. Snow 1st moved to Cherokee Co.
TX.- Per 1850-1870 census there were 7 children: Acenath E.,
Christopher, & Elizabeth J. - all born Al; Wm. W. born in Miss.; &
John Malcom and James A. born in TX. Eliz. b. c1846 AL, Wm.
W. c1848 MS, Jno Malcom 1850 TX. So, they apparently left AL
1846-47 for Miss, then left c.1849-early 1850 for Cherokee Co. TX,
arriving in time for the census. --- BD]

not son. Was only son of Wash's brother James Hezekiah "Ky"
Key. --- BD]
