Do you know if any of those WALKERs moved on to DeSoto or Sabine Parish,
LA?
I've found a number of the same families in the Wilcox/Monroe Co. areas that
eventually settled in DeSoto Parish. I've noticed the Walker name in both
places. My grandmother remarried a Walker in DeSoto Parish in the late
1940's or early 1950s.
They were both over 50 and might have married for financial reasons. My
grandmothers old age pension was pretty small but she stayed in her own home
into her 80's. On the other hand, my grandmother divorced my grandfather
after a stormy, turbulent marriage. There was some anger between my dad and
her new husband. I don't know if that anger was over the divorce or a
relationship that might have caused a divorce. At any rate, my grandpa
packed his bags and went away to finish drinking his life away.
And she remarried to a Walker. I don't even know his first name because we
always called him Mr. Walker.
If it fits let me know. My grandmothers family left Alabama about 1888 and
several related families relocated. MIDDLETON, WILKINSON, COOPER, GROOM(S).
BOND(S) are known names.
Thanks a million,
Grant
