I don't have much on Thomas/Tom Stanford, but I did find him on the 1880 Pine Apple Wilcox County census.
Tom Stanford, age 63, b. in GA., father's bp, GA; mother's bp, GA.
Elizabeth Stanford, age 62, b. in NC., father's bp NC; mother's bp, NC
S. Corine Smith, dau, age 38, b. in AL
John Smith, gson, age 20, b. in AL
Jimmie Motes, gdau, age 18, b. in TX
Florence Yates, gdau, age 10, b. in AL
Bettie Linam, Other, (domestic servant), age 12 b. in AL. She is listed as a mulatto.
S. Corine Smith and her son John are the ones I was researching. S. Corine's son, John, married my great-aunt, Hortense Gaston. John settled in a community in Conecuh County and raised 11 children. His mother Sophie is buried at Bellville Baptist Church, near her son and several members of his family.
John's father was killed in the WBTS. I was told by a daughter of John that Sophie received word her husband was wounded in the battle of Vicksburg. By the time Sophie got there he had died and is buried in MS.
Margaret
