I don't know for sure about these folks, but the James J. Kirk immigrated from Lancaster, SC, around 1818 or 1819. I think he was in the area before during the War of 1812. James married Jane Walker who came from the same area. In fact, other members of her family came. I really think James came with them. They seem to have been in Monroe County at first. Jane's mother was an Elizabeth Moore. Often these Scotch-Irish families were together back in Ireland and continued to travel together in this country. They tended to be members of Covenanting Presbyterian churches which today would have the Associated Reformed Presbyterians as their descendants. Don't know if this will help, but it might suggest a place to look in the Carolinas. Kathy
