Hi, I am not familiar with the Crook family, but in reference to your
question about Oak Hill, here's a website of interest.
http://www.frontiernet.net/~cmccoy/oakhill/ You may also find cemetery
listings for Oak Hill cemeteries at this address
http://www.frontiernet.net/~cmccoy/cemetery/ , try the Bethel ARP link and
the Ebenezer link. Hamburg cemetery may also have some of your earlier
people, that's where they first settled, but since it was very swampy, they
moved up the hill to Oak Hill. Furman, Palmer, Purifoy, Old Snow Hill, and
the Pine Apple cemeteries might also have some of those collateral lines.
Hope this is helpful.

This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list.

Message Board Post:

Dr. William Eugene Crook married Aurelia Rebecca Skinner, daughter of
Benjamin Russell Skinner and Penelope Ann Albritton. Ben and Penny Skinner
are in my direct line. My evidence indicates that Aurelia and her family
lived in Snow Hill, not Ackerville. Her father is buried just inside the
gate of the Old Snow Hill Cemetery. Her mother is buried in TX, exact
location unknown, but in or near Fannin County.

In the 1870 Wilcox Co, AL census, William Crook is listed as a farm laborer,
living next door to brother-in-law Abijah Skinner (with his wife) and
Abijah's parents Benjamin Russell and Penelope Ann Skinner. Both Benjamin
and Abijah are listed as a farmers rather than farm laborers. Benjamin was
apparently ill at the time and died 26 Sep 1871. Following his death and
settlement of the estate, Penny and her two sons Benjamin Allen and Abijah
Wilford/Wellington, along with their families, moved to Fannin County TX
where Penny and Ben's daughter Mary Elizabeth had moved earlier with her
husband, dentist Joseph Kearns, and their children.

A servant, Dan'l Bytchwood (Blythwood?), 20, black, lives next door.

Amanda Greene <>, a descendant of William Eugene
Crook and Aurelia Rebecca Skinner, sent me some info about them and their
children on 9 Jan 2003. See part of her message below; the rest is included
in my notes for son Franklin Chaille Crook, Sr.

"I am a descendant of Willie E. Crook and his wife Aurelia Skinner, through
their oldest son Franklin Chaille (pronounced Shelly) Crook. Willie E.
Crook was a practicing physician. The family story goes that while Willie
was in medical school, he became friends with 2 doctors -- one named Dr.
Franklin and one named Dr. Chaille -- and that is how Franklin Chaille Crook
got his name. Franklin's daughter, Frankie Crook Atchley (my
great-grandmother) passed the name to her son, Robert Chaille, who passed it
to my father, Steven Chaille, who passed it to my brother, Chance Chaille."

On 15 Oct 2004 Sam L. Crook () sent the following
information:
"Franklin Chaille Crook is my Grand Father. My Great-Grand Father was Dr.
William Eugene Crook. I do not believe he went by "Willie". My father was
Huestis Hartwell Crook (not Startwell). I was named after William Eugene's
younger brother, Samuel Lamar."

Based on the information about a brother named Samuel, I located a Samuel F.
Crook, age 9, in Allenton, Wilcox Co, AL. Samuel's parents appear to the
parents of William Crook.
1870 Wilcox County AL census, Allenton, page 370-B

A few houses before are dentist Joseph Kearns and wife Mary Elizabeth
Skinner, Aurelia's sister.

The US Geological Survey has no listing for either Oak Hill or Oakhill
cemetery in either Wilcox or Mobile County. Could you provide information on
its location?
