While transcribing from microfilm of the Fairfield Recorder, a weekly
newspaper in Freestone County, Texas, since 1876, I found the following
concerning a death in your county. Hopefully, this will help someone
with their family research.

In Memoriam

Col. Thomas Graham Griffith, brother of our townsman, Dr. W. M.
Griffith, died in Wilcox Co., Ala., on May 8th, of bronchitis, the
sequel of la grippe. He was born in Mecklenburg Co., N. C. June, 13,
1838. Lacked just 20 days of being 72 years old. Came to Dallas Co.,
Ala., in 1836 when Indians occupied the country. Went to Wilcox Co., in
1855, where he married Miss Ellen Vickers, sweetly disposed, pure
christen lady who preceded him to her blissful reward only by two
years. He gave three years of his best manhood to the lost cause and
suffered a living death for 20 years from a lung abscess acquired during
an attack of pneumonia at Jackson, Miss., in 1862. He joined the
Baptist Church in 1857, and was a consistent member and officer until death.

A devoted husband and father a model citizen, a Christian of pure
motive, has gone to his reward

"God be with you, brother
Till we meet again."

Willis.
