A Message from the Eddie Hatcher Defense Committee

North Carolina Native American activist's capital murder trial begins
Monday
Supporters needed in the courtroom
URGENT ALERT:
Supporters needed in the courtroom
Crucial motions denied by Judge Martin;
Murder trial begins Monday (4-30-01)
Judge Jerry Cash Martin denied the motion to dismiss on Friday,
April 27.  In addition, Judge Martin denied the defense’s motion to
sequester witnesses.  Jury selection is complete, and the prosecution’s
opening arguments will begin on Monday.
The denial of these motions is a terrible blow to the defense and
the US Constitution.  It shows how the rights of prisoners in general
and Eddie Hatcher in particular—can be violated without any
consequences.
SUPPORTERS NEEDED:
We desperately need supporters of Eddie Hatcher in the courtroom on
Monday, April 30.  This is the most crucial time ever.  Over 5000 people
have viewed the website, and Eddie has hundreds of supporters across the
state and country.  Now is the time to show your support by sitting in
the courtroom and being a witness for justice.
Court begins at 9:30 am in courtroom 2C in the Robeson County
Courthouse, 500 Elm St., Lumberton, NC.  For directions to the
courthouse, see the website (www.eddiehatcher.org)
Jury composition:
-6 whites
-5 African Americans
-1 Native American
Robeson County’s population is roughly 33% white, 33% black, 33%
