The Lieutenant Grothausen who was killed in action in Jan 1777 was a member
of the Hessen-Cassel Jaegercorps. He was one of three officers serving
under Captain Johann Ewald, and is documented in Ewald's "Diary of the
American War, A Hessian Journal". He was killed several days after the
Battle of Trenton on 2 Jan 1777.
