John and Jane,
Since I am not subscribed to the Hessian mail list, I am e-mailing you
privately. There IS a HISE-L mail list, too :-)

That bio comes from "A Centennial Biographical History of Crawford County
Ohio" published by The Lewis Publishing Company 1902, Chicago, IL.

The John Hise who married Eva Kunkle did not die in "the Spring of 1836". I
have copies of the divorce papers for John and Eva Kunkle Hise. He left with
a "married woman" (Elizabeth Kline). I think, although I have no solid
proof, that John Hise appears in the 1850 Missouri, Lincoln county census
p.453
John Hice age 55 male, shoe and bootmaker, born in Pennsylvania;
Eliza age 45 female (no place of birth listed);
Ann M. age 10 female born in Kentucky;
John B. age 19 male, profession goldminer, born in Ohio;
Thomas Temple age 7 male, born in Missouri.

I can explain Thomas Temple:
John T. Temple was born near Raleigh, North Carolina, June 2, 1842, and while
but a small child was, with one sister and two brothers, brought to Lincoln
County, Mo., by his parents, John T. and Jane Temple. Shortly after their
arrival in Missouri, the mother and sister died and the younger brother
drowned a little later. In 1848, his father left the subject of this sketch
and his only remaining brother, Jas. S. Temple, with the family of a
Pennsylvania German, John Hise, where he lived until manhood.

Susan, if you're interested, I do have more on both of these families.
