Scope and Content:
This collection consists of research materials gathered by the Johannes
Schwalm Historical Asssociation an organization dedicated to the history of
the Hessian soldiers who became citizens of the new United States after the
American Revolution and their German-American descendents. Available to
interested researchers are mostly secondary materials such as journals,
monographs, family histories, articles, dissertations and manuscripts
documenting German-American families, history and culture.
Provenance:
Prior to its donation to Franklin and Marshall College in 2001, The JSHA
Collection had been deposited at the Gratz Historical Society in Gratz, Pa.
Additional materials, received in 2002 were in the possession of JSHA
Secretary Mark Schwalm, President Rich Barth and member Bob Webler. In 2003
materials were received from Association officers Rich Barth, N. Daniel
Schwalm, and James E. Swalm. Additional materials were received in 2004.
Arrangement:
The materials in the collection are organized into several broad groups
corresponding to type of material.

getauft von Herr Pfarrer Moeller. Die Taufzeugen waren Magdalenn Schutzmann,
ledige Standes. Die Eltern sind die Ehrsame Johannes Schwalm und seine
Ehrsame nahmen Odilia, Odilia eine geborene Bobin. Sey getauft bist in den
Tod so heill ich dir dein Kron.

Diesen benden Ehegatten, als Jacob Schwalm und seiner ehlichen Hausfrau
Justina eine geborene Peter Klinger ist ein Sohn zur Welt geboren, den 9ten
Tag Juni im Jahr unseres Herrn, 1848. Dieser Sohn ist geboren in Unter
Mahirntunyofaunsl? In Schuykill County im Staat Pennsylvanien in
Nord-Amerika, und ist getauft worden und erhielt den Namen Samuel den 30ten
Tag July im Jahr unseres Herrn, 1848 von Herrn I.T. Ninly. Dei Tauf-Zeugen
waren: Heinrich Ciert? und seine Frau Justina.
