The RootsWeb Mailing Lists archives contain the content of years of
discussion that have been carried on among researchers of the subject
matter of these various Mailing Lists. Thus buried in these archives
could be some treasures that might benefit you in your quest to learn
more about your ancestors. Someone at another time -- perhaps years ago
-- might have posted just the information you seek today.
Because the Mailing Lists archives' content is not included in the
metasearch results when you type in a surname on the main RootsWeb page,
a specialized search to find the treasures in the Mailing Lists archives
must be conducted. Such searches may result in finding some sparkling
gems pertaining to your genealogy that you will not discover elsewhere. >>
I did not spcifically mean articles of information and learning that a person
should always inquired about from the author in the archives of Rootsweb but
the finding of ancestors by surnames, even they should contact the submitter
as a possible new cousin in the offing. There would be a possibility of
sharing data in that respect and each person would gain by that exchange.
There have been times when this was explained but not as precise as this and
as easy to understand.
YES, we always must remember that there are copywrites to care for, but if it
is for gaining personal knowledge there is no harm but authors still care to
know who has their artaicles, etc. Ones that I have desired to share I have
been given permmission to use, even to some graphics.
