Dear Ella and Cousins,
Ella, I'm sorry to hear you were unsubscribed by the other list. That is
certainly not in keeping with Rootsweb's rules/suggestions for good list
management. I would never unsubscribe anyone without discussing an ongoing
problem with them, not that anything in your message was a problem, spam or
otherwise. Sounds like the list manager was a little trigger happy.
This leads me to comment a little further on discussions. There is very
little that I feel we can't discuss on this list. The things I won't
tolerate are bigotry of any kind and attacks on the person (as opposed to
their ideas.) Of course, inappropriate sexual innuendo
is a touchy thing. (heh) In general, inappropriate includes anything
that might have a bad effect if read by children in the family. Tasteless
comments are a whole other matter. Off the top of my head I can't think
of much else. And as Dwight D. Eisenhower said during the 1960
Presidential Campaign, when asked to name some of Richard Nixon's
qualifications for the Presidency: "Give me a couple of weeks and maybe
I'll think of something."
We are dedicated to building community, and as such, the list should be
considered as a sort of town hall, where ideas can be voiced and
debated. Our principal focus is genealogy and history, but we also want to
express ideas that promote kinship and unity and reconnection to one
another. We may not agree with every opinion, but as long as such
ideas are expressed without personally attacking someone else, we can show
respect for one another's opinions by letting them rip! I always figure if
I disagree with someone I can exercise my delete button at will!

Love, Your Cousin, Carolyn
