Hello,
Just wanted to keep you updated on what I have found out about my
James Anderson, imm. 1707 from Isle of Skye, Scotland. I have been
working on his son, Edward, b. abt 1735 in Chester Co., PA.
Edward Anderson apparently served in the French and Indian War and
after he mustered out (?) had lands in the Wills Creek - Evitts Creek
(or Evitts Cove) area near Fort Cumberland, Maryland. His land might
have been in PA, it was very near the present state line. I think
the state line was the same back then, too, between PA and MD...
wasn't that the Mason-Dixon line? Anyway, some of Edward's children
were born at this location near Fort Cumberland.
About 1770, give or take a couple years, Edward removed to Hopewell
twp, Washington Co., PA. He took two parcels of land, each about 400
acres. They were Virginia Land Grants. The land was located where
today's townships of Blaine, Hopewell and Independence come
together. This is just a few miles west of the city of Washington,
PA. The land grants were called "Buffalo Pastures" and "Paxton".
While in Hopewell twp, Edward had at least two more children.
Now, I have been doing a lot of reading about Edward's father, and
the impact of the Andersons on the area near Valley Forge where they
settled. In some places I see up to 6 children listed for James, and
in others I see only 2 or 3 sons. However, I am not finding a lot of
info about his children, except for Patrick & his descendants, and my
Edward. There were several other sons, and I wonder if any of these
other sons might be related to any of *your* ancestors.
It was said that Edward went to the area around Ft. Cumberland with
his brother George. I haven't found anything more about this
George. There might be other sons of James Anderson (& Elizabeth
Jerman). Oh, another one that looks pretty well documented is James
Anderson who married Mary Wilson.
I am going to continue working on Edward Anderson for awhile, then
move on to his son Peter Anderson who married Sarah Margaret Coleman.
We've sent in my husband's DNA kit and wil let you know when we get
the results.
Laura
