Mary Alice, people who descended from Isaac Anderson have been joining the
NSDAR as descendents of James and Agnes Anderson since the 1930's. The
information provided at that time using Boogher's Gleanings of Virginia
History was incorrect, because there was no mention of Isaac, Asa or our
Sarah. So, the NSDAR will decline any further use of that source unless we
have further proof. I do not believe my James Anderson was married to
Agnes. My James Anderson died, according to Isaac's Bible 4 Apr 1822. But
Isaac's Bible does not list a state or town of death. There is also no
mention of his wife. This has caused much consternation with the
descendents of Isaac who cannot join the NSDAR at this point.
I am a descendent of Asa Anderson, Isaac's brother, and am trying to find my
James Anderson. Since, Isaac was born about 1781 in NC and Asa in GA in
1788 and Sarah also in GA about 1790 we know that their father was in GA
about 1790 and that before 1781 he would have been in NC. Supposedly, he
was a Patriot, but so far I haven't been able to prove that. There is so
much disinformation about our James at this point, I am only going to use
information I can prove beyond a doubt as true. Any help with this would be
so very much appreciated. I know our Sarah married Stacey Collins and they
moved from MS to TX where the Collins family still live.
Thank you,
Susan

Susan, there was indeed an Augusta Co VA James Anderson who married an Agnes
Craig. This James was born ca.1748 son of John Anderson and wife Jane. He
supposedly married Agnes Craig 10 Dec 1771. Agnes' father James Craig's
ca.1789 will [I have it but not here] mentions his daughter Agnes Anderson,
wife of James Anderson.
My old family story says James and Agnes went to S. Carolina (where his
older brother Robert was) in 1787. To contradict this statement, there are
many records in Augusta Co VA perhaps of this James, into 1790's. The old
James Craig father of Agnes, did not have his estate finally settled until
about 1798, so they may or may not have left Augusta after that settlement.
The old family story continues that James and Agnes had 11 children - Mary
married Watson, Robert, Sarah married Orr, Jane married McKenzie, James,
Nancy [Agnes] married Mathews, George, Ann married Orr, Dr. William
Anderson, Elizabeth and Margaret neither ever married. This James Anderson
is to have died in S. Carolina in 1838 (not 1822). I have no references for
any of this information, even tho the great uncle who wrote it in 1923 uses
exact dates for most events, as if recorded in bibles.
You will notice there was no Isaac, Asa or John, so you might be able to put
the Augusta Co VA James & Agnes Anderson out of the running. Which of your
James' descendants was still alive in 1850 to be on census?? If you knew
what state/county he died in, you could order will/probate microfilms.
Mary Alice
