Subject: [ANDERSON-DNA] Anderson DNA Website Information
Hello,
I have recently made some decisions concerning the Anderson & Andersen
Family DNA Project and wanted to share with you.
I plan to move the DNA website off of my domain at darlene-anderson.com due
to not being positively sure I can continue to maintain this site when it
comes up for renewal next time. There is a page posted that will direct
everyone to the new (old) website.
We're going back to Rootsweb! The web space is free and the information will
be available as long as Rootsweb is in business. The website address will be
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~andersondna/
Now for the changes that are already in process on the DNA website:
First, let me say, that I apologize to each and everyone one of you. I know
that I have taken way too much time to maintain the website and keep it up
to date (which hasn't happened very often).
The new format will change that! FTDNA offers an area on their website for
the administrators to use for a database of the DNA results and haplogroups,
in addition the kit # is shown. I chose not to use this part of FTDNA's
website in the beginning because I wanted the information as to matches of
each member to be readily available for all Anderson researchers. However,
trying to keep up with maintaining the updates just wasn't practical.
So I have decided to use the space FTDNA offers for posting the DNA results
and haplogroup. The information will become available as soon as FTDNA
notifies us there has been an update to a member's information. If the
results information is regarding a member who matches in a new group, I will
still have to go in and update a few items, such as if a member matches with
a group I will have to move the member's information to that group. The
information will still be available though under the "Unassigned Group"
information.
So, what this means for each of you, is that you will most likely start
receiving more emails from folks interested in knowing who your matches are
within the group. This information
is available to you on FTDNA's website.
Go to www.ftdna.com, login your area using your password and username FTDNA
gave you when you became a member.
I think this may end up being a better idea because instead of people
checking the website to see who a member matches they will be contacting you
personally and that may mean more genealogy contacts for you.
So, the groups and results information is at
https://www.familytreedna.com/public/andersondna/default.aspx
The Lineage information will be moved off of the DNA website while I update
the website. I ask that you give me approximately a month to repost the
information.
Also, FTDNA does not have anything to do with the Anderson DNA website and
Herb and I do not have a financial stake in FTDNA. If the Anderson DNA
website hasn't been updated that's my fault and no one else's. As said
before, FTDNA offers web space for certain information they provide from the
DNA testing and I have utilized that area on their site. Other than that,
the Anderson DNA project chose FTDNA as the company to do the testing. They
have been a very good company to work with and have always given answers to
our questions in a timely manner.
I hope these change don't inconvenience anyone at this time, but when all
the information is operational again we will have a better website and one
that is easier to maintain.
If anyone has questions please contact me at
Sincerely,
Darlene Anderson
