Linda,

I have a Margaret Anderson (b. 1838 in PA) who married a Peter Dallas.
Margaret was a sister of James Anderson (b. 1836 in Allegheny Co.,
PA), my great-grandfather. One of James's sons was George Lankford
Anderson (b. 1859 in Sharpsburgh, PA), my grandfather. So, I have a
George and a Dallas, but no George Dallas. Nevertheless, the
similarity of names could be more than mere "coincidence."

My grandfather, George Anderson, moved to Birmingham, AL in 1885 to
start a foundry, an industry closely connected to iron and coal
mining. Leadville and Georgetown were early mining towns in Colorado,
perhaps an environment "comfortable" to a man from the iron foundry
region of PA (this part is a stretch, but certainly is not
inconsistent).

Who were the Anderson relatives mentioned in Mellissa's obituary?

Best regards,
Earl Anderson
A descendant of Isaac York, who, with no parents, miraculously
appeared on the Earth in the year A.D. 1793.

I have a George Dallas* ANDERSON who went to CO. He reportedly:
Worked for the C, B and O railroad line in Galesburg, Ill. Had
a
brother who was in the Civil War. He was originally from Penn. After
that
he had a rooming house in Leadville, or Georgetown, CO. His wife,
Melissa
Diana Jane Graham Anderson was b. in Crab Orchard, KY.
Melissa remembered crossing the plains in a covered wagon. She
remembered having to put the wagons in a circle to defend against the
Indians. At age 12, her Mother died leaving her to care for younger
bothers
and sisters. She also remembered being in "Indian Country" - living
there - for a time. Her daughter, my great grandmother, was Hattie
Jane
ANDERSON, b. in Elwood. KS in 22 Oct. 1862. Hattie was married to
Loring
Meade 24 Nov. 1881 in Clear Creek, CO. She died 30 Mar 1934 in
Oakland, CA
and is buried in Chico, CA. Hattie and Loring had my grandfather,
Harry
Robert Meade, in Newton, KS. Harry married my grandmother, Minnie
Agnes
Pope in Denver CO where my father was born. The family moved to
Chico, CA.
There are ANDERSON relatives mentioned in Melissa's obituary.
Melissa died in Chico, CA. George died before Melissa in CO. (?) I
think
there might have been ANDERSON relatives who went to San Leandro, CA
and
Burlingame, CA. DOES ANY OF THIS ring a bell with any of you? :)

UNFORTUNATELY most of my research is not with me at this time; I am
on
vacation but will be home in a couple of weeks if not sooner.

*I have no record of this family ever having been in Dallas, Texas, so
I am
not sure where this middle name came from. There may also have been a
descendant (woman) named or called Dallas who lived in Burlingame.

Sincerely, Linda Meade Clayton
