Subject: [ANDERSON-L] missing Anderson

Hi,

I have a problem that I am hoping that someone can help me with. For about
2 years now I have been trying to locate my uncle, Arthur F. Anderson. He
was originally form Boston, MA. I have his birth date, place of birth,
parents names and last known address. Unfortunately the address is almost
60 years old. According to family ( and I rattled some skeletons to get
this information ) Arthur left home at about age 17 in 1940 after a family
disagreement. Rumor had it he lived in NY but no one knows where or when or
if he stayed put.

I have done letter campaigns to NY, MA in case he went back and to FL in
case he retired there. No luck although many nice Arthur Anderson wrote and
even called to say they were not who I was looking for. I sent a letter to
be forwarded to Social Security Feb. 24th, 1998. Believe it or not it came
back today as unknown whereabouts. They said they have the same 40 year old
address that I do.

Until recently I was unsure that Arthur was alive. However, when I had a
slight problem with my Social Security number inSept. and was trying to
straighten it out I took a chance and asked what I could do. They could not
tell me where he was but they did say that yes, he is alive. He is also not
collecting Social Security even though he is of retirement age. Best guess
is that he worked for the government. I wrote the Office of Personall
Management and they kindly checked their records without luck. I did get
what I thought were 2 clues from Social Security. They asked if I thought
he went back to MA and if I had checked the docks. I have no idea how to
use this information.

Arthur is one of my fathers younger brothers. Out of 8 siblings, including
Arthur, only 4 are living. My Dad is almost 81 years old and would love to
contact him. A younger sister idolized Arthur and wishes to see and talk to
him as well. She may be in the early stages of Alzheimer's. The third
brother is also keen on finding him. So you can see that time is very
important in this.

If anyone has any ideas of how I can continue my search I would certainly
appreciate them. The family prefers not to hire an investigator. I even
have been in contact with a family friend who worked for the FBI and he has
not had any luck in helping us. His specialty was not missing persons
however.

Any and all ideas would be welcome. I can be contacted at:

Thank you all so much,
