Subject: [Anglo-Italian] Anglo Italian Research ADMIN NOTE LONG!
Date: Thu, 14 Mar 2002 00:48:20 -0000

Hi All,
Thanks you all for such a positive response to my posting. Apologies for
not replying to you all personally, but there were too many!, so I am
cheating and posting this to you individually and sending to the Anglo
Italian List. Apologies if you receive 2 copies.

As yet the Anglo Italian list hasn't made too many plans or objectives. We
want to get a Society together, and get a web page up and run this will run
along side the Mailing list for those that do have access to the net. We
don't want to exclude anyone! At the outset we just were not sure if there
would be enough interest for a Society, having said that, there are
Societies for those researching Anglo French and Anglo German Ancestry and
they are well supported, so why not.

Someone has mentioned meetings. As with any informal gathering (it is at
this stage) there are people on the Anglo Italian list from outside the UK,
that is not unusual, lots of mailing lists and Family History Societies have
members that are "overseas" so I personally do not feel that is a problem.
Perhaps, those of us in the UK (And anyone in the UK on their hols could
join us?) should/could/would like an informal meeting during the Summer?

At this stage we are simply gathering numbers and comments. Making sure
that there is the support for a Society. Once we have established that
there is, we will need to look, not just at the fundamentals of such a
Society, but what do we have to offer members?

Initially, before we can produce any journal we need to accumulate data,
pool our resources and produce an index of what we have and who has it.
This is where the web page will come in. It will also "advertise" our
existence. Our list deputy, Carol of Tree Tops has very kindly offered to
periodically place a message for us on the TV Screen and on Tree Tops News.
This will gain the interest of those not on email, or those new to email and
not yet list members. I have offered to act as PR/Marketing, and have a
nice longish list of Journals and places that will support us in our
formation.

There has been a question regarding Canadian or American Italian Ancestry.
When the list was established it was aimed at those of us here in the UK
researching, as there was groups in the USA. However, We don not want to
exclude anyone. The bottom line is, researching Italian Ancestry,
regardless of the Anglo, USA, Canadian element, is difficult and isolating.
The whole point of such a Society is to share our knowledge and resources,
by us having a list too, it simply takes the whole thing a step further.

We are such a new group, therefore nothing is cast in stone. We are all open
to suggestions and please can these be made to the list
And a welcome to all the new members!

Regards
Julie Goucher, List Owner
