The Italians living in the UK, when said to be street musicans were mainly
people walking the streets with Icecream carts and a hurdy gurdy!! not sure
what they are really called.
I read recently that in Manchester often these were rented out to people so
that they could make a living. If they did'nt sell Ice Cream there were
other things that they used to sell, but all recorded as street players,
musicans, carman and vendors normally come under the same area of work.
On the Ancoats website there is a very good article about ice cream sellers
well worth reading www.ancoatslittleitaly.com
I know that there is a John Podesta on the mailing list who is also a member
of our Society who may be interested in contacting you. I will check through
our database for the surnames you mention to see what I can find.
would you be interested in filling in a family group record for our
database?
Best wishes
Ruth
