Hi listers

I am trying to find a connection for my GGGG Grandfather Thomas Sabatini to any person with the name Laverno.
Thomas was on the 1851 census with the surname Laverno, yet when he married in 1809 he used the name Thomas Sabatini. He was born in London circa 1784 but I dont know where to look for a birth entry if indeed it still exists!
If anyone can give me an idea why this might be, and also how I can research the name Laverno, I would be most grateful. I wondered if he may have used the name Laverno because he may originally have came from Livorno?
Any info is appreciated.
