Subject: LDS Library Catalog Goes Online (beta)
Date: Sat, 03 Apr 1999 22:06:49 -0700

If you haven't yet visited the new LDS genealogy site, here is the URL:

http://www.familysearch.org/

Not everything is working yet, and the site may be taken offline
occasionally while they work out the bugs, but if it all works out as
planned we will have online access to Ancestral File, the IGI and the
Family History Library catalog.

If you want to try the online IGI, it is here:

http://www.familysearch.org/Search/searchigi.asp

It looks like only North America is working at present. I tried a search
in Germany and a message said that region was not online yet.

The Family History Library catalog, while not yet available, will be
here:

http://www.familysearch.org/Search/searchcatalog.asp

Here is a list of what they plan on having at the site when completed:

Ancestral File
International Genealogical Index
Web sites
FamilySearch Pedigree Resource File
Family History Library Catalog
Family History SourceGuide

It looks as if people will be able to submit to Ancestral File online.
You will, of course, still have to go to a Family History Center to
order and view any records found.

Have fun figuring it all out. I've already spent an hour at the site.

Regards,
Joe
