I saw a death certificate from Monroe County, NY, today that had some
oddities I had never seen before.
The father listed had a different surname and his name was written in
parentheses. For example:
John Doe died. His father was listed as (Albert Nelson).
The mother's name was entered as Unknown.
Does the use of parentheses indicate adoption? Or what else would it
mean?
Any ideas?
