You also have to consider when you are talking about. Dual citizenship is a
recent concept. You need to check out the law in place in 1909 for an
complete answer. I do know that a woma at that time lost her American
citizenship if she married a foreign citizen, even if they lived in the
United States. She then became an naturalized citizen when her husband did.

I think dual citizenship is an outgrowth of WWII but not sure.
