Subject: Is there fair use of an image of text?
Date: Tue, 28 Sep 1999 06:52:41 -0600

As I recall the original question, the plan was to include the actual image
of two copyrighted paragraphs in a new work. Does anyone know whether that
makes a difference in the fair use exception to the copyright law? In other
words, is it permissible to quote two paragraphs in a book, but it might not
be permissible to include the actual image of those paragraphs? With the
image, you are copying not only the original author's words, but you are
also copying the layout, typeface, and pagination.
