The Virginia Genealogical Society is a non-profit organization with a focus on education. Our newsletter is one of the way we provide education. We publish articles on research facilities and the information available at these sites, how-to articles and book and computer program reviews. We should <my opinion> be as quick to provide readers/researchers with information regarding material found --or not found-- on CDs. Many researchers read the promotional blurbs attached to CDs and believe what they appear to say. I believe that it is time that we publically note that these promotional blurbs do not (in many instances) define the material on the CDs and that users need to ask questions. They can then make an informed decision.

I do not think that APG or any other body is ready or has the man-power at this time to set up a program to provide a seal of approval or be a guiding light. What we can do is to continue to work to educate the public.
