Myra,
There is another downside. This has become a problem at some of the news
groups and Forums. This is the issue of libel that is open to lawsuits.
Printing reviews is one thing; printing something detrimental to a person
or organization (that affects their reputation or economic wellbeing)
without proper documentation may open a group or person to the possibility
of being sued to recoup costs of merchandise not sold or civil damages to
regain one's reputation. This means, therefore, that serious consideration
would have to be given to insurance for indemnification for such issues.
This brings up issues of criteria of what is or is not "up to standards."
It can be a "slippery slope" that needs to be carefully looked at. Large
companies are suing for comments made in different ForumsĀit is not just a
rumor. Of course, it does not matter if the case goes to court or gets
settled, but it will cost a lot to make it "go away."
