I have found references in my family history to "the plantation." This was
particularly interesting because this family embraced the Quaker faith,
never owned slaves and the only land they owned was a pitiful 60 acres of
steep hills, rocks and woods.

There are many references to Quaker farms in colonial Southern New Jersey as
plantations. Probably a case of the usage changing over time.
