Connie,
I have taught Adult Education classes for a number of years. Many of my
students are recently retired. Recently, started working with the college
staff.

I don't believe that the premise is any different for people who will be
"jumping the pond" or staying on these shores.

You need to start with what you know and work backwards in time!

To many times, people want to move more quickly than they should and this in
turn leads them to errors in their research.

But as to the questionnaire: I ask about the places their families came
from, the research facilities in the area that they have used, how long they
have worked on their family tree.

Hope this helps.
